Event catering

What to ask before booking a food truck caterer.

Most food truck bookings that go wrong were going to go wrong from the first phone call. These are the questions that surface problems early, with our own answers so you can see what a straight one looks like.

Menu and pricing

Start with the money and the food

What does it cost per head?

Ask for a per-head figure and what it covers. Ours: from $23 per head for a single main, about $28 with sides, and $30 to $35 for the full menu, food only.

How is travel charged?

Travel should be a separate, visible line. We quote it from our Hebersham base to your venue address.

What is actually on the menu?

Get the item list, not adjectives. We serve seven items and confirm fillings and toppings when the booking is finalised.

How do you handle dietary needs?

Listen for honesty. We can make several items vegetarian, and we make no certified halal, vegan or gluten-free claims.

What happens if numbers change?

Guest counts move. Ask how changes are handled and get it written into the confirmation.

Is there a written quote?

There should be, before any money changes hands.

Setup and service

Then the logistics

How much space do you need?

A real operator can answer in specifics: level hardstand, clear width and height on the way in, and one fixed position.

Do you need power or water?

We confirm both at booking. With a suitable 15A outlet we plug in; otherwise the truck runs independently.

How fast do you serve?

Ask for a number. Ours is under 90 seconds a ticket, and 120 guests over 2 hours runs smoothly.

How long should service run?

We recommend 90 to 120 minutes so nobody queues for long.

What do you bring, and what do I supply?

We bring the kitchen, crew, food and compostable serving ware. Tables, chairs, shade and drinks are yours.

Who cleans up?

The caterer should. We pack down and leave the site clean.

Before you sign

Four last checks

01

Who is my contact?

You should be dealing with a named person. With us it is Nathan.

02

Is the venue on board?

Venues and councils have their own rules for food trucks. Confirm before you book.

03

What is the wet weather plan?

Ask what happens if conditions change on the day.

04

Can I have it in writing?

Date, times, menu, price, travel and what is included.

FAQ

Booking a food truck: questions, answered

What is the most important question to ask a food truck caterer?

What exactly is included. Staff, serving ware, setup, pack down and rubbish removal should all be named in the quote.

How far ahead should I book?

As early as you can for popular dates. Spring Saturdays and the weeks before Christmas go first; midweek and daytime bookings are easier to lock in.

Do I need council approval?

On private property the booking is between you, the property owner and us. For parks, reserves and other council land, check with the council or venue about permits before you confirm.

What does the truck not bring?

Tables, chairs, shade, decorations, entertainment and alcohol are the host's to arrange. Soft drinks are available from the truck.

How do I book the truck?

Send the date, guest count and address through the quote form, call 0477 417 629 or email freakeats1@gmail.com. You get a clear written quote before you commit.
