The area was known to the Dharug people as Bungarribee. The name Doonside dates from 1826, when John Crawford named his land grant. The suburb was renamed Wolkara in 1921, but locals objected and the name Doonside returned in 1929.

Doonside is home to Nurragingy Reserve, a 90 ha reserve on the western edge that forms part of the Western Sydney Parklands, the Kareela Reserve sporting complex, Doonside railway station on the Main Western line and Featherdale Wildlife Park, which opened in 1953. Schools include Doonside Public School, Crawford Public School and Doonside Technology High School.

Site checks for a food truck Doonside event

Every booking starts with three checks: level, stable ground; clear width and height for the truck on the way in; and one fixed parking position for the whole service. Doonside has a mix of house parties, sports grounds and larger reserves. For a home, a driveway or level kerbside spot works. For Nurragingy Reserve, Kareela Reserve or a school, the land manager or Blacktown City Council sets the rules for food vehicles, so confirm approval and the exact parking point before you book. A photo of the spot with your enquiry lets us confirm it quickly.

Menu and prices for Doonside events

The menu is short on purpose, so the line keeps moving and every item is made the same way each time. These are our current menu prices:

Menu itemPrice
Taco x3$23
Double Cheese Burger Taco$22
Freak Bowl$21
Loaded Tater Tots$20
Nachos (cheese, salsa and toppings)$19
Corn Ribs x6$12
Small Tater Tots$8

Soft drinks can be added on the day. Taco fillings and Freak Bowl ingredients are confirmed at booking.

Per-head catering packages

  • Single main: from $23 per head, food only. The simplest option for a big crowd.
  • Mains and sides: about $28 per head, adding sides such as Loaded Tater Tots or corn ribs.
  • Full menu: $30 to $35 per head, so guests choose anything at the window.

As a guide, a single main suits a quick work lunch, while the full menu suits a party where guests come back for seconds. Travel to Doonside is shown as a separate line in your written quote.

Who books a food truck Doonside service

Doonside bookings come from families planning birthdays and gatherings, sporting clubs running presentation days, schools and parent groups, and workplaces in the nearby Huntingwood and Arndell Park business areas shouting their teams. Hosts like that nobody has to cook, set up a buffet or wash trays afterwards; guests simply walk up to the window when they are hungry.

Steps to book a food truck Doonside visit

  1. Send your date, start time, guest numbers and the Doonside address through the quote form.
  2. Tell us where the truck will park and who approves the site, and add a photo if you can.
  3. Choose a package: single main, mains and sides, or the full menu.
  4. Receive a clear written quote showing food, service time and any travel separately.
  5. Confirm, and we arrive, set up, serve and leave the site clean.

Food safety and approvals

Freak Eats operates as a mobile food business under the NSW Food Authority guidelines for mobile food vendors. Councils, schools and venue managers can set their own conditions for food vehicles, so tell us who manages your site and what paperwork they ask for. We will supply what they need before the day.

Dietary needs

Tell us about dietary needs when you enquire. Several items can be built without meat and typically suit vegetarian guests; confirm the details at booking. We do not claim vegan, halal or gluten-free certification, so please discuss any allergy needs with us directly before the event.

Planning checklist for a food truck Doonside booking

  • Confirm the date, start time and how long you want the service window open.
  • Count adult and child guests separately so we can suggest the right package.
  • Choose the parking spot and check it is level, with clear access and no low branches or overhead wires.
  • Get written approval from the venue, school or council if the event is not at a private home.
  • List any dietary needs or allergies among your guests.
  • Let neighbours know if the truck will park on the street for a few hours.
  • Decide whether you want soft drinks added to the order.

Send these details with your enquiry and your Doonside quote comes back complete, without a long back-and-forth.

FAQ

Food truck Doonside: questions, answered

Where is Freak Eats based?

Our kitchen base is at 3 Drury Pl, Hebersham NSW 2770, in the City of Blacktown. It is a kitchen, not a shopfront, so the truck comes to your Doonside address for private bookings and you never need to collect food or arrange delivery.

How much does food truck catering cost in Doonside?

From $23 per head for a single main, about $28 per head for mains and sides, and $30 to $35 per head for the full menu. Those figures are food only. Any travel to Doonside is shown as its own line in your written quote.

Can you set up at Nurragingy Reserve or Kareela Reserve?

Possibly, but only with approval from whoever manages the site. Reserves and sporting complexes have their own rules for food vehicles, bookings and access. Get that approval first, then send us the exact area and entry point, and we will confirm the truck can get in and park safely.

How much space does the truck need?

A level, stable hardstand, clear vehicle width and height on the way in, and one fixed parking position for the whole event. A driveway or wide kerbside spot usually works. Send a photo of the spot with your enquiry and we will confirm it suits.

Can I walk up and order in Doonside without a booking?

Only on our public trading dates at host venues, which are listed on our events page. Most weeks the truck is out at private bookings, so for a party, work day or fundraiser in Doonside the way to get Freak Eats is to book the truck.

How do I book the Freak Eats food truck for Doonside?

Send your date, guest numbers and the Doonside address through the quote form, or call 0477 417 629. You get a clear written quote covering food, service time and any travel before you commit, so there are no surprises on the day.
